The (2-2) Okotoks Dawgs take on the (2-2) Edmonton Prospects in game five of the WMBL playoffs tonight at Seaman Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm.
The Dawgs fell one run short of a ninth inning comeback last night, losing 9-8 to the Prospects at RE/MAX Field. Ryan Humeniuk was a terror to the Prospects pitching staff, notching four hits while collecting seven on the series thus far. Greg Cullen and Cameron Campbell were right behind him with three hits apiece while Kody Funderburk launched his 16th home run of the season in the loss.
HOME SWEET HOME
If it’s an elimination game, the Dawgs are happy it will be in front of a packed crowd at Seaman Stadium. Okotoks won 21 games inside the lines of their own ballpark this summer, losing just seven.
FEEL THE VERN
Justin Vernia signed his first professional contract with the Sioux City Explorers out of Iowa yesterday, August 4. The Explorers play independent baseball in the American Association league. Vernia was a force with the Dawgs this summer, staying undefeated with four victories to his name while earning a 2.36 ERA. In the postseason, he was just as effective, tossing a complete game — the first and only for Okotoks this year.
KNOW YOUR STARTER
CJ Lewington gets the ball tonight in game five. This will be his first postseason start after going 3-2 with a 5.31 ERA over the course of the regular season. He is riding his best start of the campaign into tonight, tossing six innings of shutout baseball against the Brooks Bombers July 29.
Tickets are available! All nine-game playoff packages will be $180. Individual playoff tickets are now available online. Playoff patio bookings are available, please call Angie Cox at 403 262 3294 for details.
Ryan Humeniuk: 7-13, 7 R, .538 AVG
Cameron Campbell (R): 7-15, 2 R, 2 2B, 6 RBI .467 AVG
With a victory tonight, Okotoks will play the winner between the Lethbridge Bulls and Medicine Hat Mavericks. Date is to be announced.
