Okotoks, AB. – If you were at an Okotoks Dawgs game this summer, chances are you saw sponsor Okotoks Bone and Biscuit roaming the concourse.
The pet supply store owned and operated by Chris and Elaine Baker opened only three months prior to the season, but was recently nominated and named New Business of the Year through the Okotoks Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence awards.
“Being associated with such a local icon made us immediately visible in the community,” Chris Baker said. “Many first-time customers came in because they said they saw us at the games, and knew we sponsored Diggity and supported the team and because of that, they wanted to support us in turn.”
Baker said the reasoning behind getting involved with the Dawgs was not only about exposure – the collegiate club averaged over 4,000 fans per game this season, ranking third in North America for all summer collegiate programs – but the values both he and the team share.
“The Dawgs were a no-brainer based on the obvious pet/animal connection, but also the huge attendance numbers and high quality of the product the Dawgs put on the field,” he said. “We are a family business helping families keep their pets healthy with high quality products and the Dawgs games are a high quality, family centred, and friendly event. Plus the organization has a strong family feel.”
This is just year one of the partnership between the Dawgs and Bone and Biscuit, and Baker believes other local businesses should try and get involved any way they can.
“The front and back office staff are simply incredibly wonderful to deal with, from ownership right through to the part-time, game day staff,” he said. “We would also recommend a partnership because your business will see immediate returns on any investment made with the team. We just cannot say enough good things about the organization.”
The Bone and Biscuit is located inside the Cornerstone Mall.
