The Dawgs traveled down to Medicine Hat on Tuesday for the first of their two-game road trip, to take on the Mavericks in a battle of undefeated teams. The Dawgs went down early in the game due to a three-run homer, which put the Mavericks on top 3-1 in the second inning. The Dawg’s bats came alive in the sixth and tenth innings where they scored most of their runs and resulted in the team improving to 4-0 on the season, beating the Mavericks by a final score of 6-4 in extra innings.
The pitching staff played a major role in the victory. Relief Pitcher Logan Rumberg finished with three strikeouts over two innings and prevented the Mavericks from scoring despite giving up three hits. Cade Hermann started his night in the ninth inning and finished with two strikeouts, sending the game to extra innings. Hermann earned his first win of the year for his efforts on the mound. Seth Thompson earned his first save of the season shutting down the Mavericks in the tenth inning.
McCoy Pearce had another solid performance at the plate. Pearce ended up hitting 2-4 and added 2 RBI on the night. Ryan Dousett made his season debut tonight in left field and was a key contributor, blasting a solo home run that kickstarted the scoring in the 6th inning. Dousett finished the night 2-4 with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored. Catcher Caleb Lumbard and DH Brendan Luther each had 1 RBI helping the Dawgs put up 6 runs on the Mavericks.
