Dawgs Coaching Staff

Mitch Schmidt - Head Coach

Making his Dawgs debut will be Coach Schmidt, who is heading into his 12th season with the Bellevue Bruins, a NAIA national championship program. The Billings, Mont. product began his full-time coaching career in 1995 with Montana State University-Billings and Minot State University. Throughout Schmidt’s 22 year coaching career, he has coached 87 players who have signed professional contracts. Numerous individual athletic and academic awards from the national and conference levels have been awarded to players he has coached, including 15 NAIA All-American Awards, 3 NAIA National Gold Glove Awards, 17 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete Awards, 128 All-Conference Awards, 31 Conference Gold Glove Awards, 57 Conference Scholar Athlete Awards and 3 Conference Baseball Scholar-Athletes of the Year Awards. Since he joined Bellevue in 2005, the Bruins have made four NAIA World Series appearances, 10 MCAC Tournament appearances and have earned two NSAA regular season championships.

David Robb - Hitting & Bench Coach

Returning as Bench and Hitting Coach is longtime Dawgs coaching mentor, David Robb. Coach Robb played at San Matteo JC and Cal-State Fullerton. He later coached in the Oakland A's organization. In addition, he played and coached professionally in Italy and has worked with both the Italian and Canadian national teams. He has served as head coach of the Kelowna Falcons of the West Coast League and as head coach of 3 Dawgs summer collegiate clubs that went on to win WMBL Championships.

Andy Peterson - Infield Coach

Infield & Assistant Coach Andy Peterson, is a native or Anaheim, California and is another alumni of Pac 12 powerhouse Oregon State. Peterson was a middle infielder on a Beavers team that earned a trip to Omaha in 2013 for the NCAA, Division 1, College World Series. He enjoyed a highlight game going 3 for 4 with 3 runs scored in leading OSU to an 11-4 win over Louisville. Following his college career, he was selected by the Seattle Mariners in the MLB Draft and played 2 seasons in the Mariners minor league system.

Joe Sergent - Pitching Coach

Longtime collegiate and Academy pitching coach, Joe Sergent, will be wearing the red and white once again in 2018. Sergent was drafted in 1999 by the Florida Marlins in the 21st round and played five years in the organization. In his professional career, the lefty has a regular season record of 64-33 with a 3.87 ERA. He has contributed to the development of Dawgs players from the grassroots to collegiate level for the last two years.
