Dawgs Dominate Cactus Rats
Final Score: Dawgs 20, Cactus Rats 1
The Okotoks Dawgs unleashed a relentless offensive barrage on Saturday night, steamrolling the Energy City Cactus Rats 20–1 in a lopsided West Division clash. The Dawgs exploded for 20 runs on 17 hits, breaking the game wide open with a seven-run fourth inning and never looking back. Their dominance wasn’t limited to the batter’s box either, as four different pitchers combined to hold the Cactus Rats to just one run on nine hits, capping a thoroughly commanding team performance in enemy territory.
Connor Crowson (University Of Montevallo) led the offensive onslaught with a powerhouse performance at the plate, going 3-for-5 with four RBIs and one walk. He wasn’t alone in the hit parade—Eric Machej (Illinois State University) also had a standout night, tallying three hits in six trips and helping set the tone from the two-spot in the lineup. Brandon Paez (University Of Utah) provided a major spark off the bench with a 3-for-3 showing, adding two RBIs and a walk in a highly efficient night that showed off the Dawgs’ depth. With ten players notching hits and six recording multi-hit games, it was a full-squad statement.
On the mound, Seth Gurr (University Of Montevallo) set the tone early, going five strong innings and giving up just one run while striking out six. He handed things off to the bullpen with a 13–1 lead, and the relief corps took care of the rest. It was a complete effort from the Dawgs, who flexed their muscle in every phase of the game and reminded the league why they’re a force to be reckoned with.
The Dawgs look ahead to their next matchup tomorrow, Sunday, June 8, in Okotoks, Alberta, where they will face the Cactus Rats. Following, the Dawgs remain at Seaman Stadium Tuesday, June 10, against a familiar The Sylvan Lake Gulls for another matchup.
