Okotoks Dawgs Baseball Club (“Dawgs”) is headed to the playoffs of the Western Canadian Baseball League for the 22nd consecutive season. Dawgs have won the last 3 WCBL Championships and begin their quest for a 4th when they host the first home game of the 2025 Western Division semi-finals this Wednesday, August 6th with first pitch at 7:05 PM and gates opening at 5:30 PM. Game 3 of the first-round action, if necessary, will return to Seaman Stadium on Friday, August 8th with a 7:05 PM start.
While the 1st round dates and game times are certain, the Dawgs opponent is not yet clear. With 2 games remaining in the regular season, the Dawgs clinched 1st place in the West Division this past Saturday by capturing 2 wins in a doubleheader over the Lethbridge Bulls and now sport a 39-15 record. All of Energy City, Brooks and Fort McMurray are still battling for that final playoff spot and an opportunity to match up against the 1st place Dawgs. Meanwhile Lethbridge and Sylvan Lake will do battle in the other West Division semi final.
Dawgs are led offensively by veteran spark plug Ricky Sanchez (Gonzaga) who is batting .336 out of the leadoff spot. Slugger Zane Skansi (Campbellsville, KY) is among league leaders at .365 with 11 home runs and 46 RBI’s. Other standouts include Connor Crowson (Tennessee Tech) and Barry Eiseman (Reinhardt University, GA) batting .396 and .391 respectively. 1st Baseman, Leo Cote (Portland) has had a hot bat in recent games with 5 home runs and a .349 average in just 16 games.
On the mound, the Dawgs are led by starting pitcher Ryan Rembisz (Portland) with an impressive 0.00 ERA in 8 innings pitched. Other Dawgs starters who have impressed include Brady Baltus (New Mexico) and Jace Wessels and Gavin Wuschke (Bellevue, NE). Dawgs also rely on a stacked bullpen led by Reid Madariaga (Seattle), Ashton Luera (Oklahoma Wesleyan), Chase Tucker (Campbellsville, KY), Garrett White (Bellevue, NE), Alex Oliver and Frank Flores (Colorado Pueblo) and Easton Corey (Linn Benton, OR).
