The Dawgs battled the Sylvan Lake Gulls tonight in front of a crowd of 6194 at Seaman Stadium in Okotoks, Alberta in their Home Opener. Late-inning heroics stole the show tonight as the Dawgs get a come-from-behind victory by a final score of 8–7, scoring three runs in the bottom of the ninth to win it.
\nRicky Sanchez (Gonzaga University), Cal Gates (Indiana University), Leo Cote (University of Portland), and Connor Crowson (Tennessee Tech University) all reached to start the ninth, paving the way for Jeremy Kuiper to beat out a ground ball as Crowson came around to win it. Four consecutive singles in the bottom of the eighth from Cote, Crowson, Nash Crowell (Tennessee Tech University), and Kuiper kickstarted the comeback attempt as the Dawgs cut the lead to two, before winning it in the ninth. Newcomer Jayden Lusk (Vernon College) also had a nice night with two hits, and three RBI’s.
\nCurrent Dawgs Academy player, and University of Houston commit, AJ Rogers got the start tonight, giving up three runs in four innings of work. A trio of Dawgs Academy pitchers made debuts tonight out of the bullpen as Jack Bello, Jack Thompson, and Brydon White all had scoreless innings of work. White’s scoreless ninth inning also earned him the win.
\nA beautiful tribute to the late Don Seaman in the pregame festivities was a beautiful touch as the Dawgs celebrate their 20th season in Okotoks. The action continues tomorrow night when the Dawgs welcome the Lethbridge Bulls to Seaman Stadium.
