Okotoks, AB – The offence found its rhythm for the Okotoks Dawgs in the 3rd inning today as they defeated the Brooks Bombers 7-5 in front of 5,688 fans Tuesday night at Seaman Stadium. The Dawgs put up a gutsy performance today against a feisty Bombers squad. It was a picture-perfect night at the ballpark, with blue skies and no wind, making for ideal playing conditions.
\nThe Dawgs’ offense was led on the day by Ricky Sanchez (Gonzaga University) going 2-for-4 with two runs scored, and an RBI in his new spot at the bottom of the order. Jordan Kievman (Wright State University) went 1-for-4 with three RBI and a walk. Turner Zdunich (Colby Community College) also had a nice night, going 1-for-4 with an RBI.
\nThe Dawgs pitching was led by starter Brody Papay (Wright State University), who threw five strong innings, allowing three runs, but just two earned, and striking out five while picking up the win. The bullpen once again came in and did the job in the closing innings. Tonight it was Grady Keljo (University of Portland), Blake Smith (Seattle University), and Max McRaray (University of Houston) who were dominant in the win, going a combined 3 innings, allowing two runs, but just one earned run. The Dawgs trio also combined for 6 strikeouts in those 4 innings. The Dawgs closed it out in the 9th with Ashton Luera (Oklahoma Wesleyan University), setting down the Brooks hitters and sending them on their way. The bullpen continues to be rock solid for the Dawgs.
\nThe Dawgs now move to 16-6 on the year. Okotoks now looks ahead to their roadtrip, beginning against the Fort McMurray Giants, June 24. Their next home game is Canada Day, July 1, against the Sylvan Lake Gulls.
