After a loss Wednesday night, the Okotoks Dawgs came back home with something to prove tonight. An incredibly close game, they were unable to clinch a win against the Medicine Hat Mavericks. The final score of the game was 9-8.
The crowd at Seaman Stadium was supportive regardless, and showed up in thousands. Celebrating the first day of summer for many local teachers and school faculty the Dawgs hosted Teacher Appreciation night.
The Dawgs now rank 18-4 in the Western Canadian Baseball League 2024 season, and the Medicine Hat Mavericks rank 14-11.
Following an amazing performance in recent games, with a home run and multiple RBIs, Brendan Luther (Mississauga, ON) was an offensive star in tonights game. Luther had two RBIs for two hits. Logan Grant (Chestermere, AB) has also been having a great hitting performance in recent games. Grant led the team scoring three runs, and knocking out an outstanding triple during the bottom of the ninth.
Troy Benko (Mesa Community College) pitched an incredible first inning, striking out all three of the Mavericks hitters. All pitchers tonight made their best efforts in putting out the Mavericks, but ultimately it was a team effort with the infield as well.
The Dawgs will play their next four games back to back with a home team advantage in Okotoks. They’ll get their chance at redemption tomorrow night, June 29, facing the Medicine Hat Mavericks once again.
