Losing last night, the Okotoks Dawgs had something to prove tonight.

A nail bitter to the very end, going three extra innings, the Dawgs faced the Medicine Hat Mavericks again tonight and came out on top. In Front of a packed Seaman Stadium, the Dawgs earned the series split with the Mavericks, winning 6-5.

The Dawgs are now 19-4 in the Western Canadian Baseball League 2024 season, while the Medicine Hat Mavericks fall to 14-12.

Logan Grant (Chestermere, AB) almost saved the Dawgs last game against the Mavericks, Friday June 28, with a triple and a run in the bottom of the ninth. Grant is carrying over his successful spring career from down south where he was named conference player of the year at the national powerhouse Bellevue University. He is proving time and again to be the one to watch at the plate and every area of the game. Tonight, Grant went 2-for-2. In the end, it was a hit by Connor Crowson (Okotoks, AB) that ended the tied score.

Unlike last night's game, the Dawgs and Mavericks had several scoreless innings. Cam Stephens (Linn-Benton Community College) made his Dawgs debut tonight on the mound. Albeit late in the season, Stephens threw two strikeouts, starting the game off by shutting down any attempts from the Mavericks to make a play.

After taking into three extra innings, it was Trent Warstler (Emporia State University) that had an epic close to the nigh. Seaman Stadium were glued to their seats as Warstler struck out three hitters allowing the Dawgs to earn a run and win the game.

The Dawgs will play their next two games back to back with a home team advantage in Okotoks, where they look to clutch another win. Next game is Sunday June 30, where the Dawgs will host the Swift Current 57’s for the first time this season.
