Okotoks, AB - The Okotoks Dawgs were fired up tonight coming off two back-to-back wins against the Edmonton Prospects on Thursday. The Dawgs would continue their momentum this weekend by shutting out the Prospects 7-0 to win the third game of this five-game series.
With this dominant victory over the Prospects, the Dawgs now sit 24-5 in the WCBL season maintaining their position at the top of the power rankings.
Tucker Zdunich (High River, AB) was a powerhouse at the dish tonight. Zdunich went 2-for-5 with two hard hit balls up the right field side earning Zdunich four RBIs. Jarrett Burney (Reinhardt University) would also continue his hitting streak this weekend, going 3-for-4 crushing a triple in the seventh inning.
The Dawgs bullpen dialled it in tonight not allowing a single run to cross the plate. Brock Townsend (Bellevue University) got the nod tonight in his first start of the season. Townsend was a force on the mound tonight, throwing four innings and not allowing a single run or hit. Ryan McFarland (Calgary, AB), Ashton Luera (Oklahoma Wesleyan), Chase Tucker (St. Johns, NF), and Aaron Hammer (Campbellsville University) would all step on the mound and secure the shutout with scoreless innings. McFarland was a highlight tonight, striking out four in his two innings of work.
The Dawgs finish their series with the Edmonton Prospects when they take them on in a doubleheader tomorrow Saturday, July 6th. The first game will begin at 4:00 pm and the second game will begin at 7:05 pm. These games will be considered Edmonton home games as the Dawgs will be lending beautiful Seaman Stadium to the Prospects for the evening.
