Lethbridge, AB - The Okotoks Dawgs defeated the Bulls in Lethbridge today in a closely contested game. The Dawgs got one over the Bulls after falling short in their last three appearances. The Dawgs kept the lead all game and secured the victory in a tight 9-8 win.
With this victory against Lethbridge, the Dawgs improved their record to 26-5 in the WCBL season thus far.
The Dawgs lineup was led by some powerful hits giving them the early lead. Nash Crowell (Yarmouth, NS) lived up to his nickname “Nash Bash” with a powerful home run launching over the Bulls scoreboard. Crowell excelled today, going 4-for-5 including a double and a three-run home run. But it wouldn’t be just Nash going yard today as Caleb Lumbard (Regina, SK) crushed his first home run of the season with a solo shot in the fourth. Finally, Tucker Zdunich (High River, AB) continues to shine going 2-for-5 with an RBI.
Dawgs Veteran Graham Brunner (Sherwood Park, AB) got the nod today and gave an impressive performance throwing 5.2 innings and striking out nine. Ryan McFarland (Calgary, AB) relieved Brunner ending the sixth inning quickly for the Dawgs. Easton Corey (Linn-Benton CC) would step in and toss a scoreless inning with one strikeout. After a bit of struggle in the later innings, it would be Ashton Luera (Oklahoma Wesleyan) who made the save today, taking the mound in the ninth and striking out the final two Bulls batters.
The Dawgs will be on the road for the next little while when they take on the Brooks Bombers this Tuesday, July 9th at Elks Field. The Dawgs will then return to beautiful Seaman Stadium on Thursday, July 11th taking on the Sylvan Lake Gulls in our annual ‘Mascot Mania’ where Diggity will be joined by a few friends.
