The Okotoks Dawgs host the Moose Jaw Miller Express for the first time this season.

The Okotoks Dawgs had hit a wall these past few weeks. But tonight, they came out and displayed the full potential and prowess that  all fans and coaches know the team is capable of.

It all boiled down to going back to basics; switching up the pitchers often and hitting bombs.  The final score for the Dawgs was four to three.

Seaman Stadium also congratulated alumni and current Dawgs players who were drafted into the MLB. With a special nod to the players featured on the 2024 Okotoks Dawgs roster Jay Schueler and Eric Hartman.

This win means the Dawgs improve to 29-11 in the Western Canadian Baseball Leauge’s 2024 season and the Miller Express rank 21-21.

The Dawgs bats were hot tonight and the game started quickly as Brendan Luther (Mississauga, ON) got his first hit and run of the game  in the bottom of the first. Evidently turning a new leaf, the Dawgs stayed hot all night with run after run. Jarrett Burney (Reinhardt University) and Jason Arriola (Colorado State University Pueblo) each earned a run as well as tonight's designated hitter Logan Grant (Chestermere, AB).

Quinn Tocheniuk (Okotoks, AB) got the nod tonight as starting pitcher and threw a strong first inning, pitching two overall and striking out three. Ashton Luera (Oklahoma Wesleyan University) closed out the night for the Dawgs, in a close four to three lead. Luera was able to keep the Express from tying it up and pushing the game into extra innings.

The Dawgs are at home, playing Seaman Stadium all weekend. And, the WCBL’s Home Run Derby and All-Star game, featuring several of the Dawgs players, will take place this Saturday, July 20. Come on out, soak up the sun and watch elite players and prospects do what they do best!
