DAWGS GO FOR HISTORIC 3-PEAT IN WCBL CHAMPIONSHIP

Okotoks, AB – The Okotoks Dawgs Baseball Club will be hunting its 3rd consecutive WCBL Championship when they take on the East Division Champion, Moose Jaw Miller Express starting Thursday (tomorrow), August 15th at 7:05 PM at Seaman Stadium. The schedule for the 2024 championship is as follows:

Okotoks went 42-14 during the regular season and knocked off Lethbridge and Sylvan Lake in the West Division playoffs. Moose Jaw posted a 26-29 record but caught fire by besting rivals Regina Red Sox and Saskatoon Berries in the East Division playoffs. Dawgs boast a potent offence led by middle infielders, Brendan Luther (Bellevue University, NEB) and Ricardo Sanchez (Lamar University, TX) who are batting .462 and .364 respectively during the playoffs. Connor Crowson (University of Montevallo, Alabama) led the team in home runs (9) and RBIs (55) while Tucker Zdunich (Reinhardt University, GA) belted 7 and Logan Grant chipped in with 5 big flys. Jarrett Burney (Reinhardt University, Georgia) was the club’s top hitter during the regular season hitting .441 with 26 RBIs.

On the mound the Dawgs are led by starters Graham Brunner (Emporia State, KS) who posted a 4-0 regular season record, Brock Townsend (Bellevue, NEB) who started the West Division final, Gavin Wuschke (Bellevue, NEB) and Garrett Maloney (Campbellsville University, KY) with ERAs of 1.42 ERA and 2.65 respectively. The Dawgs also feature an outstanding bullpen anchored by closer Ashton Luera (Oklahoma Wes. University), who has dominated opposing hitters all season long with 63 strikeouts in just 32 innings pitched.

East Division champion, Moose Jaw has been led by Nathan Houston (Arizona Western) who is batting .500 in the playoffs and Nate Mensik (Doane University, NEB) who has belted 3 home runs with 7 RBIs over the playoff wins. On the mound, the club has been led by Westin Walls (Incarnate, TX) who has a playoff record of 2-0 with 15 strikeouts. Dawgs fans will enjoy seeing Calgary Flames Head Coach, Ryan Huska throwing out the 1st Pitch in Game 1 of the Championship.

The WCBL has enjoyed its best season ever with 2024 attendance breaking the 400,000-mark led by the Dawgs with 153,000 fans for the season averaging a phenomenal 4774 fans per game.
