In a dramatic extra-innings battle on Wednesday night, the Okotoks Dawgs came up just short in a 12–11 walk-off loss to the Moose Jaw Miller Express. The Dawgs burst out of the gates with five runs in the first inning and held the lead deep into the contest, but Moose Jaw clawed back with consistent offense, tying it late and eventually securing the win in the bottom of the 10th on a single. Despite the heartbreaking finish, Okotoks showcased their offensive depth and competitive spirit throughout the high-scoring affair.
Eric Machej (Illinois State University) led the charge at the plate for the Dawgs, delivering a strong 2-for-4 performance with two RBIs and two runs scored. The second baseman set the tone early with a key hit during the explosive first inning and continued to be a steady presence both offensively and defensively. Aidan Rose (University of British Columbia) also made his presence felt after entering the game, going 2-for-5 with a run scored and providing much-needed depth off the bench to keep the Dawgs’ offense rolling in the middle innings.
On the mound, the Dawgs leaned on a full bullpen effort with five pitchers seeing action. Trey Mackwood (Panola College) stood out with 2.2 innings of work, giving up just two earned runs and striking out two. Another strong performance came from Alex Oliver (Colorado State University Pueblo), who pitched a clean ninth inning and showed poise in extra innings before Moose Jaw’s final hit sealed the game. Despite the result, the Dawgs demonstrated grit and depth and will look to bounce back strong in their next outing.
