Dawgs Pull Off Tight Road Win
Final Score: Dawgs 6, Bombers 5
The Okotoks Dawgs edged out the Brooks Bombers 6-5 on Thursday night in a road game that went down to the wire. The Dawgs built an early 4-2 lead through the first four innings, but the Bombers chipped away and tied things up in the bottom of the 8th. A run in the top of the 9th put Okotoks ahead, and despite Brooks threatening in the bottom half, the Dawgs held on to escape with the one-run win. Defence and depth pitching held the lead in the later stages of the game for the Dawgs.
Zane Skansi (Campbellsville University) led the Dawgs offensively with two hits, an RBI, and a run scored over five trips to the plate. Benito Bonilla (Missouri State University) and Chase Logan (Linn Benton Community College) each drove in a run as well, contributing to a lineup that managed six hits but made them count when needed.
On the mound, Easton Corey (Linn-Benton Community College) was steady in the most important moment of the game. Entering in the 9th with the tying run aboard, Corey shut the door with a scoreless inning and recorded a strikeout to earn the save. Starter Brody Forno (Campbellsville University) allowed three runs over four innings, while the bullpen navigated some traffic, giving up a combined five hits and two runs before Corey locked it down.
The Dawgs now look ahead to their next matchup, tomorrow, Friday, June 20, at home right in Seaman Stadium, where they will face the Brooks Bombers once again at 7:05. Following, the Dawgs head on the road for a Saturday June 21 game against the Lethbridge Bulls at 7:05. For tickets and team info, visit www.dawgsbaseball.ca/tickets or call 403-262-3294.
