The Okotoks Dawgs fell in heartbreaking fashion to the Fort McMurray Giants on Thursday night, dropping a 7–6 decision after surrendering a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth. The Dawgs led by as many as two runs late in the game, however,Fort McMurray tied the game in the ninth with a bases-loaded single , capping off a 3-run rally and handing Okotoks their latest tough loss in West Division play.
Despite the loss, several Dawgs hitters had productive nights. Eric Machej (Illinois State University) continued his solid form at the plate, going 2-for-4 and scoring twice out of the two-hole. Nash Crowell (Tennessee Tech University) and Leo Cote (University Of portland) each chipped in with two RBIs apiece, while Jake Skaggs (Pittsburgh State University)and Barry Eiseman (Reinhardt University)both added run-scoring hits to help Okotoks build their early lead.
On the mound, starter Gavin Wuschke (Bellevue University) battled through 4.2 innings, giving up four runs on seven hits while striking out two. The Saskatchewan native had a strong start for the Dawgs. The Dawgs look to bounce back tomorrow as they are once again set to battle the Giants.
Following this weekend's four game series in Fort McMurray, where they have yet to play July 11, 12 and 13, the Dawgs will return to play on Tuesday, July 15th right here at Seaman Stadium to face off against the Saskatoon Berries.
