Okotoks, AB – The Okotoks Dawgs showcased their elite skill and depth at the pitching position tonight in a 4-1 road victory over the Energy City Cactus Rats. The Dawgs now extend their season-long winning streak to eight games. Following an hour-long rain delay, the timely hitting with runners in scoring position came up big once again for the Dawgs as they pulled through in some big spots to add to their lead in this one.
The Dawgs’ persistent offence on the day was led by another standout performance by Dawgs Academy alum Jacob Wrubleski (Gonzaga University), who went 2 for 3 at the plate, with 2 RBI, including a 2-run homerun to give the Dawgs the early lead in the top of the 1st. Fellow Dawgs Academy alum Landon Kauffman (University of Portland), continued his nice start to the season, going 2 for 4 with an RBI single in the 4th. Newcomer Emmett Stacher (Linn-Benton Community College) also continued to impress, going 2 for 3 with an RBI single in the 6th.
Starting pitcher, and Dawgs Academy alum, Brody Forno (Camblesville University) got the start on the mound for the Dawgs, going two strong innings of scoreless ball in that opener spot. Following Forno, the Dawgs bullpen once again came in and shut things down. Tonight it was Brody Burnett (Bellevue University), Dalton Hoffart (Hill College) and Max McRaray (University of Houston) who locked down the win, going a combined 4 innings and allowing just 1 run. The trio also combined for 3 strikeouts in those 4 innings. McRaray, as the final guy out of the pen, picks up the save.
The Dawgs continue to impress as they battled the elements at the end of a roadtrip for another victory moving them to a division leading 13-3 on the season. They now look ahead to their next matchup at home tomorrow night, Thursday, June 18, against the Lethbridge Bulls at Seaman Stadium.
