The Okotoks Dawgs opened their road stretch with an extra-inning victory over the Saskatoon Berries on Tuesday, July 7, earning a 9-6 win at NextGen Patch at Cairns Field. The Dawgs battled through a back-and-forth game, recording 13 hits and using clutch pitching to ultimately secure the victory after 11 innings.
The Dawgs were led by Connor Crowson (Tennessee Tech University) at the plate, who went 3-for-5 with one run, three RBIs, a stolen base, and a walk. Jordan Kievman (Wright State University) was another major contributor for Okotoks, once again getting the Dawgs’ offence started with a three-run home run in the third inning and capitalizing on key opportunities throughout the game to help power the Dawgs past the Berries.
Brody Papay (Wright State University) got the start, delivering four strikeouts in five innings. Emmet Stacher (Linn-Benton Community College), Dalton Hoffart (Hill College), and Max McCraray (University of Houston) combined for 2.3 scoreless innings of relief, keeping the Berries offence in check. The final three innings were closed out by Brody Burnette (Bellevue University), who delivered key pitches in the 11th inning to shut the Berries down in order.
The Dawgs will look to continue their momentum throughout their Saskatchewan road stretch, taking on the Berries again tomorrow, July 8 at 7:05 p.m. For tickets and team info, visit www.dawgsbaseball.ca/tickets or call 403-262-3294.
