Okotoks, AB – The Okotoks Dawgs put on a show tonight in front of a packed Seaman Stadium crowd of 6,233 fans in a 11-1 victory over the Medicine Hat Mavericks. It was a game the Dawgs led most of the way after a big 8-run 3rd inning. It was also the Opening Ceremonies for The Road to Okotoks tournament before the game, where each of the 16 teams were introduced to the crowd.
The bats were led by Landon Kauffman (University of Portland) going 1-for-4 with a homerun and two RBI. Jacob Wrubleski (Gonzaga University) came up big as well, going 3-for-4 with a run scored. Matt Evans (Texas A&M University Corpus Cristi) came through with a pair of hits to drive in two runs. Eric Machej (Illinois State University) also hit a homerun off the bench in his first game of the season for the Dawgs.
On the mound, the Dawgs pitching was led by a top notch outing from starter Tyson Willis (George Mason University) who went six strong innings, allowing just one run and striking out three. Logan Rumberg (George Mason University) came on to work a scoreless 7th, including a strikeout. Lincoln Berg (Lower Columbia Community College) then came on with a scoreless outing to close the game, striking out two.
With the win, the division-leading Dawgs now move to 27-10 on the year. Okotoks now heads on the road to take on the Sylvan Lake Gulls tomorrow, July 16. The next home game is the following night, July 17, against the same Sylvan Lake Gulls.
