Okotoks, AB – The Okotoks Dawgs fought hard, but came up a bit short tonight, falling on the road 8-3 to the red-hot Sylvan Lake Gulls. The Dawgs had won four in a row coming in to tonight, but that winning streak will have to be restarted tomorrow night. This result now sees the Dawgs and Gulls tied atop the WCBL’s Western Division.
The Dawgs’ bats were led tonight by Nash Crowell (Tennessee Tech University) who had a pair of hits, going 2-for-4 on the night. Eric Machej (Illinois State University) continued his strong start to his Dawgs season, also going 2-for-4 and scoring a run. Ricky Sanchez (Gonzaga University) also had a strong night, going 1-for-4 with a pair of RBI.
On the mound, the Dawgs pitching was led by a quality start from Brody Papay (Wright State University) who went four and two thirds, allowing just two runs and striking out five. Korey Alston (Odessa College) pitched a strong inning of relief as well, allowing just one run and striking out two.
With the loss, the Dawgs now drop to 27-11 on the year. Okotoks now heads home for a rematch with the Gulls tomorrow night, July 17, at Seaman Stadium.
