Okotoks, AB – The Okotoks Dawgs won a tight one this afternoon over a game Brooks Bombers team by a final score of 12-9 in Brooks. The Dawgs learned from yesterday and got out in front early today, with the help of a three-run home run by Eric Machej (Illinois State University). With the win, the Dawgs strengthen their lead atop the WCBL’s Western Division.
The Dawgs’ bats were led today by Ricky Sanchez (Gonzaga University) who went 2-for-4 with a double and a big two-run home run. Aidan Dougherty (University of Washington) also had a big day, going 3-for-4 with an RBI. Cal Gates (Indiana University) had a solid day as well with a pair of hits going 2-for-4 with a run scored.
Jordan Kievman (Wright State University) did not have his best game, but came through when it mattered most with a game-winning 2-RBI single in a tie game in the top of the 9th inning. Jacob Wrubleski (Gonzaga University) also added to the scoring late with a two-run home run in the 9th.
On the mound, the Dawgs pitching was led by starter Emmett Stacher (Linn Benton Community College) who went three and two thirds innings, allowing just three runs and striking out two. Reid Madriaga (Seattle University) had a great relief outing, going three and a third innings giving up just two runs and while striking out eight.
With the win, the Dawgs move to 33-12 on the year. The next game for the Dawgs is set for Wednesday, July 29, against the Lethbridge Bulls.
