Okotoks, AB – The Okotoks Dawgs closed out their regular season with a dominant 9-2 win tonight over the Energy City Cactus Rats in front of a crowd of 4,912 fans at Seaman Stadium. Tonight marked the final regular season game of the season at the ballpark, with playoffs set to begin Friday night, August 7. With the win, the Dawgs cement their lead atop the WCBL’s Western Division.
The Dawgs’ bats were led today by Ricky Sanchez (Gonzaga University) who went 2-for-4 on the night. Sanchez also made history, playing all nine positions in nine spectacular innings tonight. Matt Evans (Texas A&M University Corpus-Christi) had another good day at the plate as well with a hit going 1-for-3 with a run scored. Cal Gates (Indiana University) also had yet another great day at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI.
On the mound, the Dawgs pitching was led by a scoreless three innings from Jaxon Mayervich (Okotoks Dawgs Academy), in his Dawgs debut. Dalton Hoffart (Hill College) had a great relief outing again, going a shutout inning with a strikeout. Reid Madriaga (Bellevue University) also came on to work a scoreless 8th inning with three strikeouts as he remains red hot of late. Ricky Sanchez and Nash Crowell (Tennessee Tech University) came in, combining to close the game on the mound, with Crowell freezing the hitter on a curveball for the final out.
With the win, the Dawgs move to 40-14 on the year. The next game for the Dawgs is game one of the WCBL Playoffs set for Friday, August 7, against the Energy City Cactus Rats.
