Dawgs and Dawgs Academy Alum Matt “Tugboat” Wilkinson Called Up to the San Francisco Giants
A dream years in the making is now a reality for Okotoks Dawgs and Dawgs Academy alumnus Matt “Tugboat” Wilkinson, who has been called up to the San Francisco Giants and is set to make his Major League Baseball debut this week.
Wilkinson was selected by the Cleveland Guardians in the 10th round of the 2023 MLB Draft and spent parts of three seasons in the Guardians organization, climbing as high as Double-A.
Earlier this spring, Wilkinson was traded to San Francisco in exchange for two-time Gold Glove-winning catcher Patrick Bailey. The right-hander quickly made his mark in the Giants organization, making three starts with the Richmond Flying Squirrels, San Francisco’s Double-A affiliate, before earning a promotion to the Sacramento River Cats at the Triple-A level.
Since joining Sacramento, Wilkinson has continued to turn heads, posting a 3-4 record across 43.2 innings. He has allowed 36 hits and 17 walks while striking out 43 batters, recording an impressive 1.21 WHIP.
Now, Wilkinson is ready for the biggest stage.
The Giants travel to Cleveland this week for a three-game series against Wilkinson’s former organization, the Guardians, from August 18–20, with the Dawgs Academy product set to make his MLB debut.
From Okotoks to the Major Leagues, Tugboat has officially arrived.
Congratulations, Tugboat! Welcome to The Show!
